Landance 2009 - Border Dance

Landance is launching a new contemporary dance project in Chard and Honiton. 

Dance and Drawing sessions in each town, led by Dance Artist Rachelle Green and supported by Visual Artist Ella Huhne, begin in July and will culminate in performances at Castle Neroche in September. 

The theme of the project is 'Borders' and it aims to bring together communities from Somerset and Devon as part of a series of events held by the Blackdown Hills Artists and Makers (BHAAM) for Somerset Art Weeks 2009. 

Visual Artist and project organiser, Ella Huhne, said "the response to our leafleting has been really good - people are very enthusiastic about the project and keen to take part.  Dance is such an enjoyable, creative and social activity."

All activities are free and all ages are welcome.  The project is funded by the Blackdown Hills AONB Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) and Holyrood School.  find out more

 

Local Children exhibit alongside Local Artists

In another part of the BHAAM Border project, artwork has been created by Hemyock children during two workshops led by artists Fiona Hamilton and Jane Lawrence.

The aim of the sessions was to connect children personally with their school community and local area to increase their sense of 'belonging'. 

Artist Fiona Hamilton said: "Hemyock School could not have been more welcoming, the children were so creative and ready to participate - the outcomes excelled anything that we could have expected." 

 The work produced is being exhibited at the East Devon Business Centre at Heathpark, Honiton from 7th July to 15th September.

This project is also funded by the Blackdown Hills AONB SDF and part of the series of events created for Somerset Arts Week 2009. find out more
