Now is a great time to get out and enjoy the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and many people will particularly enjoy walking their dogs. However, late spring and early summer is the time when birds are nesting and feeding their young. Many of our wild birds have declined in number and need all the help we can give them - ground nesting birds such as curlew, nightjar and skylark are particularly to disturbance by dogs. During this critical period though to 31st July, please keep your dog on a lead when walking in the countryside! For more information, click on Natural England's John the Sheepdog.
