Newly completed Blackdown Hills Community Plan brings parishes together

( Last Updated: 05-07-2011 )

Parish councils will work more closely together to improve life for local people, thanks to the newly completed Blackdown Hills Community Plan.

The plan will help parishes across the Blackdown Hills to address common issues such as broadband provision, local transport and the impact of severe snowfalls on isolated communities. The plan also proposes to bring together a group of local people to better understand how the government’s Localism Bill could give greater responsibility for planning to parish councils.

Work on the plan involved consulting with local people, bringing together individual parish plans, and identifying shared problems, which took 18 months. The project was supported by the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team, Devon County Council and the Blackdown Hills Parishes Network

The Blackdown Hills Community Plan will be distributed to parish councils in August, with an invitation to a special meeting of the Parish Network in September
