Local people should apply quickly for grants for new projects in the Blackdown Hills, it was announced this week.
The Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team is calling for applications for this year's Sustainable Development Fund (SDF), a grant scheme which helps people to improve their local environment, economy or way of life.
Anyone with an idea for a project needs to get their application in by 31st August 2009 for consideration by the next meeting of the independent SDF panel. Projects have to be completed by the end of February 2010.
Grants of between £100 - £10,000 can help small enterprises, community schemes and green initiatives.
Nickie Moore, AONB project co-ordinator, said:
"We are anticipating a high level of interest so I would urge anyone who has an idea to get in touch as soon as possible. We're particularly keen to help people who are new to running projects or who want to experiment with new ways of doing things".
Last year SDF helped a huge range of ideas to get off the ground. These included helping local businesses to co-operate, improving woodland management, researching rare grasshoppers, setting up a conservation group, and recording the recollections of older residents.
Guidance, application forms and checklists can be found on the funding page of this website.
