Local people are being invited to see the Blackdown Hills differently - by joining two bicycling artists inside a giant camera.
The Pinhole Pedallers, Sam White and Louise Laker, are coming to Monkton, near Honiton on Monday 5th September as part of their 2011 tour of the South West. They will be creating images of the Iron Age hill fort of Dumpdon Hill, encouraging passers-by to join in, and enjoying some local ice cream.
Sam and Louise travel with a giant pinhole camera which they have constructed to record the landscape. People can join them inside the camera and experience the photographic process from an unusual angle.
Sam says:
"Being inside a camera really make you see things differently, the projections they produce are mesmerising and make even the mundane beautiful. They are so versatile too, becoming a studio, a source of inspiration or simply a place to relax and enjoy the simple act of seeing - not just looking".
Sam and Louise started cycling on 17th August in the Tamar Valley, and will complete the tour on 11 September at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, where Henry Fox Talbot pioneered photography in the 19th century.
They will be setting up the pinhole camera at Otter Valley Ice Cream, just off the A30 at Monkton on Monday 5th September, 11am - 3pm.
The Pinhole Pedallers have been supported on this part of their tour by the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty's Sustainable Development Fund.
