The Event: Butterfly ID and Survey Training

Dates: 12 Jun 16

Location: Neroche Parish Hall, Nr Bickenhall, Taunton, Somerset TA3 6TY

10:30am -3:00pm

Join Butterfly Conservation and the Blackdown Hills Natural Futures team to learn about the variety of butterflies that can be found across the hills.

In the morning we will learn how to identify a range of species and hear about the work Butterfly Conservation are doing to help boost numbers of some butterfly species that are struggling for survival.

In the afternoon we will visit a nearby woodland site to try and find the Duke of Burgundy and Dingy Skipper butterflies and other species. We will also look at suitable habitat and identify the food plant of the rare marsh fritillary butterfly.

After the training day, participants will have opportunities (if desired) to help survey sites across the Blackdown Hills to help Butterfly Conservation monitor populations of butterflies. Free Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits provided. Bring a picnic lunch, sturdy boots and wet weather clothing.

Cost: FREE.  Booking essential
