Butterflies Bonfires and Baked Potatoes

( Last Updated: 21-09-2012 )

Butterfly Conservation are starting up their autumn/winter conservation management work at Mount Fancy Farm Reserve near Staple Hill.  They are looking for volunteers to join maintenance work parties and spend a day carrying out habitat management activities.  This includes selective scrub control to keep the reserve in shape for its wildlife including threatened butterfly species.  There are usually warming bonfires and baked potatoes as well!

This is a great opportunity to enjoye the many benefits of countryside volunteering and working outdoors as well as contributing to the conservation of many rare butterlfy species.

You can park at Staple Hill Forestry Commission car park (ST246159) and walk down to either of the reserve entrances which do not have parking.  They are at Mount Fancy Farm (ST252 164) and Shutes Farm (ST246 169).

There will be several days - dates to be confirmed, so  to get involved and register your interest, please email John Davis - jdavis@butterfly-conservation.org or call 01929 400209.

Additional info:  Not suitable for under 5s.  Over 5s need to be accompained by a responsible adult.  The ground can be muddy, stony and uneven and there are no toilet facilities.  Not suitable for dogs.  Make sure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
