Blackdown Hills AONB joins Battle for Biodiversity

( Last Updated: 18-01-2010 )

2010 has been designated International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) by the United Nations.  Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth.  The health of all life on the planet depends on this variety as the different species of plants and animals all have a role to play.

Humans are an integral part of the web of life, but currently our activities are destroying biodiversity at an alarming rate.  This year is an opportunity to focus on the threats to biodiversity at both worldwide and local levels.

The Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has signed up to IYB 2010 and, along with our partners, we will be hosting events aimed at promoting an understanding of the biodiversity of the Blackdowns and what we can all do to protect it.  For more information contact the AONB office on 01823 680681, see the Diary of Events, or click on the 2010 logo to go to the UK IYB website.
